Romania is a unique and welcoming country where you can vividly experience the past in the context of the modern. Motorcycling through Romania provides the opportunity to encounter rich and unique traditions, medieval villages and charming towns, as well as fast-paced, modern city life and fantastic scenery within an amazingly compact geography. The Carpathian Mountains take you around and above the Transylvanian Plateau. The hills are home to farm communities and vineyards. The numerous rivers along with the Black Sea expand your travel horizons. Romania is home to majestic mountains, lush forests, rolling plains, spectacular gorges and caves, many rivers and lakes, along with centuries of history. And above all, Romania’s people are its real treasure—warm, welcoming and hospitable, Romanians are proud of their country and eager to share it with visitors. While there are plenty of other destinations that you could explore on a motorcycle, Romania is one of the few places that will challenge and reward you simultaneously. The country will not leave you indifferent. Regardless of your itinerary, each day of riding in Romania will offer surprises and adventures. At the end of your journey you may love it, you may hate it, you may want to write a book about it. But, no matter what, you will not forget your experience. The country is endowed mainly with two-lane roads—passing other vehicles is an everyday reality. A motorcycle is ideally suited for such an activity, especially when you consider that you are sharing the road with livestock, tractors, bicycles, pedestrians, and commercial vehicles. Furthermore, it is also an excellent economic choice given the high price of gas. When should I plan my motorcycle travel? Romania’s summer extends from June to September. Usually, the hottest and driest month is July. However, it is possible to encounter pleasant riding days in May and early October. Be advised that spring rains and summer storms can produce flooding and road damage in certain areas. The famous Transfagarasan Highway can be closed due to snow, even at the end of June. |
